Overview

Axi Recruitment is working with our valued client in Ashington for two Plant Operators to join their Operations Team on a full-time permanent basis, based at their power station.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the operation of a high-pressure boiler and the 140Mwe Turbo Alternator Unit. The role is critical to the safe and efficient operation of the generating units.

Job Details

• Work as part of a shift team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the generating units. 
• Undertake plant and unit inspections, monitoring plant status and responding to alarms.
• Undertake routine plant change overs as well as identifying defect and potentially unsafe conditions.
• Identify and recording any defects and safety issues identified during plant inspections in the Maintenance Management system.
• Gather, analyse, interpret, and log plant performance data relevant to the area under your control and implement changes to improve operational efficiency with the assistance of the Power Plant Controller(s) as required.
• Undertake standard operational duties in one of the three roles: Unit Operator, General Duties Operator or Ash Plant Operator.
• Remove plant from service and assisting in the isolating of plant in readiness for the issue of safety documents.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in either Maths, Science, Design & Technology, or a similar relevant subject.
• HNC (Level 4) in Engineering, or a similar relevant subject.
• Equivalent relevant experience in power generation at a similar level is desirable.

Experience

• Knowledge of safe systems of work, including permit to work, method statements and risk assessments.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure and working to tight timescales.
• Experience of working in heavy industrial or engineering environments, preferably power generation.
• Demonstrated personal commitment to the highest standards of safety.
• Critical thinker, comfortable making decisions under time pressure.
• Good verbal communication skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
